How to use your computer's sound instead of your mic input in TS

RealPandemonium's picture

This guide will demonstrate how to use your computer's sound as the input instead of your mic in TS. I am using Windows Vista in this demonstration.

First, go to the Sound Devices tab in Settings > Options.

By default, your TeamSpeak input is set to "Primary Sound Capture Driver," which usually means that your microphone is the input device.

If you want to play music or other sounds on TS without having to turn up your speakers and running it through your mic, you will want to play the sound directly into TS. This is done by changing the input device from "Primary Sound Capture Driver" or whatever it is set to, to your computer's sound, usually listed as "Stereo Mix" or "Waveout Mix." In my example it is listed as waveout mix.

When this option is used, all sound that goes to your speakers is also sent to TS as input, so everyone in the channel will be able to hear it if you are broadcasting to the channel.

*If these steps worked for you, skip the next section. If not, complete the next section andtry again.*
---------------------------------------------------------

However, waveout mix or your equivalent may disabled in Windows. If that is the case, it won't show up on your list of available input devices.

This section will demonstrate how to enable waveout mix, etc, in Windows Vista.

- Open Control Panel (I have mine set to the "Control Panel Home" view), and select "Hardware and Sound"

- Then select "Manage Audio devices", which is under "Sound."

- In the Manage Audio Devices window, click the "Recording" tab. Most of the time if waveout mix or its equivalent is disabled, it will be hidden and not listed on this page. If you right-click, you will see that "show disabled devices" is not enabled.

- Enable "show disabled devices" to show waveout mix or your equivalent. It will be greyed, indicating that it is not enabled.

- Right click waveout mix or its equivalent and click "Enable."

- It is now enabled.

You should now be able to select it as an input in TS. These instructions will work for most computers that are running Vista. The interface for turning on waveout, etc. will be different in XP and Windows 7, but the basic steps are the same. Fish around control panel and you should be able to find it and turn it on.

---------------------------------------------------------

Congratulations, you can now rickroll your squad every Sunday. If you use mumble like a cool person, or some other VOIP app, you can apply these steps in their interfaces. Same thing, different look.

If you want to go back to using your mic as TS input, just go back to the "Sound Devices" tab in "Settings" > "Options" and use the "Primary Sound Capture Driver".

I spent 9000 hours in ms paint making this. If you need help following the instructions or have other issues, send me some hate mail via PM and I'll help you out. My email address is also available:

Special thanks to MastaMintyfresh for being a noob and needing this guide. Also to Squirg's mousepad and Haduken's rage.

Sometimes this doesn't work for some reason or another, so you can manually plug a 3.5mm cable (or toslink, wtfever you use) from your audio out into your Line in, then use that in teamspeak Smile. Then if you want to listen to the music you would enable "Listen to this device" in "Line in"'s properties.

Not perfect, but it works.

I talk when I have something to talk about and someone to talk to. (Also, people have a hard time understanding horse so that makes finding potential partners to talk to very difficult XD)

EDIT: I also forget to turn it off when I leave the computer.

Doesn't matter. Once we find and enable your waveout mix you will be able to use it.
